5 Top Eye Exercises

We're told all the time about how to keep our bodies healthy but our eyes can be easily forgotten. With phones and computers becoming integral to our daily lives, screens can put a lot of strain on our eyes. In this blog, we'll give you 5 top eye exercises for keeping your eyes hydrated and healthy.

Blink away

When we're working at a computer and on a screen, our blinking is much less of a priority. We forget and we blink far less often. This leads to dry eyes and fatigue. Avoid this by making a conscious decision to focus more on your blinking. The best way to do this is to blink but to close your eyes for around half a second before reopening them. Doing this 15-20 times is a quick and easy way to help rehydrate your eyes, avoid fatigue and keep them feeling fresh. This is one of the easiest but most effective of our eye exercises.

Keep it focused

This exercise will not only help soothe your eyes but will help to improve focus. Find a window in your house or office and stand in front of it. Then stick a posted note at eye-level on the window. Find something outside to focus on, this could be a lampost, car, whatever you like. Switch between focussing on the posted note and the object outside. Do this for 1 minute to help exercise your eye muscles, improve focus and help to soothe your eyes.

Get palming

Palming is a great way to help soothe and refocus your eyes and also help your mind and body as well. Simply close your eyes and place the palms of your hands over them in a cupped position. Avoid applying any pressure. Let your fingers relax and rest on your forehead and take deep breathes for around a minute. Try to prevent any light from slipping through your hands and fingers whilst doing this.

Zooming

Another popular eye exercise is known as zooming. This involves sitting on a chair, in an upright and comfortable position and holding your arm out in front of you with your thumb up. Keep your eyes focused on your thumb and slowly bring your thumb closer to your eyes by bending your elbow. Bring it to about 3 inches away from your face. Move your arm away from your face again and repeat for a couple of minutes until your eyes feel refreshed.

Figure Eights

Figure eights are similar to zooming but with slight differences. Find a comfortable chair and sit upright with your feet flat on the floor and your hands resting on your knees. Lift your right hand straight out in front of you with your thumb up. Keep your head still and focus on your thumb. Use your thumb to trace a figure 8 pattern but make sure to keep your arm straight. Move in a clockwise position first and then anticlockwise. Repeat 5 times and then do the same with your left thumb.
