Bifocal Glasses

See clearly up close and far away with our premium bifocal lenses. Bifocal glasses allow clear vision at both distance and reading within one pair of glasses — think of them as ordinary prescription lenses with an additional reading segment at the bottom of the lens.

What are bifocal glasses?

Bifocal lens glasses are designed to correct both distance and near vision in one lens. The upper portion helps with seeing distant objects, while the lower section is perfect for tasks like reading or close-up work. This dual-functional design eliminates the need to switch between different glasses for near and far viewing, providing a convenient solution for those with presbyopia. Bifocal lenses from £119.

Eliminate multiple pairs of glasses

Upgrading to bifocals means you no longer need separate glasses for different tasks. This streamlines your eyewear collection and reduces the hassle of constantly switching between glasses. With bifocals, you can enjoy sharp vision for both distance and near tasks in a single, familiar pair.

What are the different types of bifocals?

We offer two classic bifocal designs, both glazed to order in our UK laboratory:

  • Standard D28 bifocals — our most common bifocal. A distance lens with a 28mm wide reading segment which looks like a letter "D" on its side, set at a standard 3mm to 4mm below the horizontal centre line of the frame.
  • Rounded R28 bifocals — as the name suggests, the round bifocal is round at the top. We use R28 bifocal lenses: a distance lens with a 28mm round reading segment. As the lens is cut away to fit the frame, this gives the appearance of a "Half Moon" or "Semi Circle" shape.

Who are bifocals for?

Bifocals are a practical solution for individuals needing clear vision at multiple distances. They are specifically designed to address presbyopia, a common age-related condition that affects near vision. Bifocals also suit people who prefer a defined reading segment and a wide, undistorted reading area, with no adaptation to progressive zones required.

Bifocals vs varifocals

The key difference is the visible line: bifocals have a clear segment line with two distinct zones, while varifocals blend distance, intermediate and reading vision seamlessly with no lines at all. If you like the sound of bifocals, you'll love varifocals — or talk to our team and we'll help you choose the right design for your lifestyle.
